“Where Do You Get Your Protein From?” Green Smoothie
Makes 1 Quart (that’s 2 pints)
This smoothie tastes too good to be good for you, but I swear it is. It’s like a Shamrock Shake…if they were delicious, culturally sensitive and totally healthy. Well meaning jerk jobs (AKA the rest of the world) love to harass vegans/vegetarians about their protein intake; this smoothie has around 20g per serving. Awesome for pre or post workout, as a liquid breakfast, in place of a meal or as a snack salad-in-a-glass.
4 oz Greens (kale, spinach, chard, collards, romaine, whatever you have)
1 ripe banana (over-ripe is even better)
2 stalks of celery, chopped
1 cucumber, chopped
1 scoop Vanilla Vega Protein Powder (available at myvega.com)
1 apple cored and sliced
1 T Almond butter (use peanut if your not one of those allergy weirdos)
1 cup Almond milk (you can use water and it’s 96.7% as good as with almond milk)
Take all those things and put them in a blender (I love my VitaMix) and blend until you have a smoothie. If you have a wimpy blender turned up to the highest setting and nothing is happening, you’ll want to turn it off and mix the ingredients around and try again. If you’re still having trouble, add water by the tablespoon until it gets going. If that doesn’t work, save your money and buy a better blender.
