Natural Hangover Helper
After the mother of all hangovers, I promised to not drink for a week, then that week became 3 years. Now that I’m sober, no one ever wants to hang out and I never miss an episode of SNL. This smoothie can save you from that awful fate.
Yields 1 Quart
Hangover prevention usually means taking two Advil/Tylenol and chugging a 32oz Gatorade before passing out. But your liver will hate you even more for having to filter out the ibuprofen or acetaminophen in addition to the massive quantity of alcohol. Then it’s time for your body to deal with the chemicals and sugar in the Gatorade. Wait, why are you surprised that you feel like shit?
You can do a better job with natural ingredients and a blender—you’ll get hydration and electrolytes from coconut water, potassium from banana, and vitamin E from almond butter. I throw in some strawberries for vitamin C—they make it taste great, and this study says that strawberries can protect stomach from alcohol toxicity.
Make this smoothie before going out. Put it in the fridge and drink before bed. Wake up human.
16oz coconut water
2 cups strawberries, fresh or frozen
1 heaping T almond butter
Put everything in a VitaMix or a regular blender. Blend for about a minute until you have a 32oz smoothie. Refrigerate. Shake before you pour.
